Born and raised in Cagayan de Oro, Philippines, Yanan is currently pursuing his M.Div. at Princeton Theological Seminary. There, his research concentrates on the intersections between race, political theology, settler colonialism, and Asian American literature. He also served as the Vice-Moderator of the Asian Association at Princeton Theological Seminary (AAPTS) in his second year.

As a writer, Yanan's research has been published in Christianity Today, Sojourners Magazine, Inheritance Magazine, Interfaith America, and more. He now works as the Public Scholarship Producer for the Center for Barth Studies and as Managing Editor for the Center for Asian American Christianity — both are leading research centers at Princeton Theological Seminary. He is also a Global Interfaith and Climate Change Fellow at Faith For Our Planet and Duke University.

Yanan completed a B.A. in Theology at Moody Bible Institute, where he also served as the lead faculty assistant to historian David Papendorf (Ph.D.) and a researcher for the undergraduate department's History of World Christianity research project.

Moreover, Yanan is a musician and poet who composes genre-defying meditations and disruptive poetry under the name Yanan & Siegfried. Through his creativity, Yanan seeks to bridge the gap between theological mysticism and artistic curiosity.
